CARICOM SG attends Special Signing ceremony for Paris Climate Change Agreement

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has joined CARICOM Heads and other government representatives at UN Headquarters in New York for today’s Special Signing Ceremony for the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

Ambassador LaRocque was also in Paris to coordinate CARICOM’s campaign as the Region sought to get its red line climate change issues represented in the final agreement.

COTED convenes Thursday: CSME, correspondent banking in focus

Matters that impact on the economic health of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) come under focus in Georgetown, Guyana, when the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) meets Thursday and Friday.

Regional Ministers who hold responsibility for Trade will hold discussions on a range of matters including the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), and treatment of nationals travelling in the Region.

CARICOM concerned about resurgence of ‘Tax havens’ label in wake of Panama Papers leak

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has expressed concern that the designation of “tax havens” is again being attached to the financial services centres in Member States and Associate Members, following the leak of the “Panama Papers”.


The Community, in a Statement, said the loose attribution of the ‘tax havens’ label ignores the reality that the regulation of this sector in CARICOM is fully compliant with international standards.  The Statement identified international standards that CARICOM Members and Associate Members are committed to and are in compliance with.
