CCC launches investigation into CWC’s Agreement to Acquire Columbus International Pursuant to Article 175 (6) of the RTC

 The CCC has launched an investigation into the agreement by Cable and Wireless Communications (Plc (“CWC”) to acquire Columbus International Inc.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) institution  which has responsibility for ensuring that the benefits expected from the establishment of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy are not frustrated by anti-competitive business conduct,  has issued a statement.

SVG to host Electric Mobility Conference and Road Show – CARICOM Secretariat among supporting agencies

The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will next week host a conference and road show on electric mobility.

The CARICOM Secretariat, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are among the entities that are collaborating to host the event.

The event will run from 30 May - 2 June, 2016, and is intended to create deeper understanding, and raise awareness on electric transport options and opportunities for the country.

Guyana can be justly proud of achievement, progress – CARICOM SG

As Guyana prepares to celebrate its Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Independence on Thursday 26 May, 2016, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said that the country could be “justly proud of its achievements and progress over the five decades of Independence.”

Guyana launches International Youth Reparations Rally and Relay

The Guyana Reparations Committee on Friday launched its leg of the International Youth Reparations Relay and Rally with an event at the Guyana Independence Park.  Speakers at the launch included President of Guyana H. E. David Granger and Chairman, Guyana Reparations Committee, Mr. Eric Phillips.

In his keynote address, President Granger said the call for Reparations was serious business and not a side show. He said the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade was one of the greatest un-natural disasters of all time and a crime against humanity.

Launch of Human Resource Development Commission proof leaders improving CARICOM’s education system – Youth Ambassador

CARICOM Youth Ambassador from Barbados, Zuwena Perry believes that CARICOM leaders have shown evidence of their commitment to improving the Region’s education system. She expressed this sentiment during the launch of the Human Resource Commission at the Caribbean Development Bank in Barbados on Thursday evening. According to Ms. Perry the launch of the Human Resource Development Commission was proof that the Region’s leaders were actively seeking to improve the education sector within CARICOM.
