Craft a culture that makes youth assets – Minister Ramjattan tells Regional Youth Forum

Guyana’s Minister for Public Security, Hon. Khemraj Ramjattan, called for the crafting of   a culture that makes youth assets rather than liabilities. The Minister made this call at the Official Opening of  the two-day Regional Forum on Youth Crime and Violence which opened today, 29 February 2016, in Georgetown, Guyana, under the theme: Youth Crime and Violence; Breaking the Cycle Exploring New Platforms for transformation.

Elections results reflect will of the people: CARICOM Observation Mission Preliminary Statement

The CARICOM Election Observation Mission has praised the conduct of Jamaica’s just concluded general elections and said the results reflected the will of the people.

The eleven-member Mission, led by Ms. Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer, Belize, issued a Preliminary Statement Friday, following Thursday’s elections which saw the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) led by Mr. Andrew Holness emerge victorious over the incumbent Peoples National Party (PNP) of Ms Portia Simpson-Miller in a close 33-30 race.

CARICOM seeks more formal cooperation with Israel

 As the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) accredits a new Israeli envoy, the Middle-Eastern state has reaffirmed its commitment to assist CARICOM to achieve its ideals.

His Excellency Mordehai Amihai-Bivas, Plenipotentiary Representative of the State of Israel to CARICOM, speaking at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters on Thursday 25 February said, “The objectives of the Caribbean Community are noble ones. CARICOM Holds Youth Crime and Violence Forum:  Explores new platforms

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Each year, approximately 200,000 youths aged 10 to 29 die, and many more sustain serious injuries, because of violence across the world[1]. “Youth violence is a global challenge”. One which the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) knows only too well, since youth are both the main perpetrators and victims of such crime in the Community. But CARICOM is accelerating its fight.

CARICOM lauds Saint Lucia’s contribution as the country celebrates 37

Saint Lucia has made a sterling contribution to the Region’s effort towards coordinated, balanced and integrated action required to ensure the survival of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) with the threat that climate change poses.

This sentiment was expressed in a message from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)  to the Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, on the occasion of the country’s 37th Independence Anniversary on 22 February, 2016.
