‘Deep shock and horror’ – CARICOM reaction to Florida massacre

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has expressed deep shock and horror over Sunday’s massacre at the Pulse night club in Orlando Florida.

 Forty-nine people were killed and 53 injured during the gunman’s shooting rampage, described by officials as the worst mass shooting in American history.

 CARICOM in its message said there was no justification, whether on grounds of race, religion or lifestyle for the slaughter of defenceless people.

CARICOM focuses on disaster risk management in agriculture planning

Natural hazards such as drought, hurricanes, earthquakes and floods have had devastating impacts on the socioeconomic and environmental landscape of the Caribbean within the last decade. The agriculture sector has not been spared this dislocation and devastation. This, in conjunction with the negative impacts of climate change and the increased vulnerability to natural disasters, have propelled the Region to put measures in place to respond more effectively to these challenges with bold, decisive, yet well-ordered strategic planning.

Statistics workshop underway in Trinidad and Tobago

A statistics workshop focusing on National Accounts is now underway in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Workshop, which began on Monday, concludes on Friday. It is being conducted as part of the CARICOM Project – Improvement in the Production and Dissemination of the System of National Accounts, which is funded by the European Union (EU) under the Tenth European Development Fund (EDF).

Competition Sensitization for Judges Concludes in Belize

The CARICOM Secretariat winds up its sensitization sessions for judges in competition law and policy this Friday, June 17 in Belize at the Radisson Fort George Hotel. Fourteen members of the judiciary will be participating in the activity which is funded under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).These include judges from Belize’s Supreme Court, The Court of Appeal as well as registrars.
