COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE ELEVENTH MEETING OF THE COUNCIL FOR FOREIGN AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS (COFCOR), 7-9 MAY 2008, BOLANS VILLAGE, ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

The Eleventh Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of the Caribbean Community was held in Bolans Village, Antigua and Barbuda, 7-9 May 2008, under the Chairmanship of the Hon. Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda. The Ministers attending were, the Hon. T. Brent Symonette, M.P, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Bahamas; the Hon. Donville Inniss, Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and International Business, Barbados; the Hon.

Communique Issued at the Conclusion of the Twelfth Special Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Georgetown, GUYANA, 17-19 March 2008

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)The Twelfth Special Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which focussed on Children, was convened at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana on 17 -19 March, 2008 under the theme, Building a Region Fit for Children.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)The Nineteenth Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was held in Nassau, The Bahamas, from 7-8 March 2008. The Right Honourable Hubert Ingraham, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, presided.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE EIGHTH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE PAN CARIBBEAN PARTNERSHIP AGAINST HIV AND AIDS (PANCAP), 29-31 OCTOBER 2008, MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  Under the theme, Leadership: Uniting Vision and Purpose, the Eighth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) was held on 29 -31 October 2008, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The three-day meeting attracted some 170 registered and specially invited guests drawn from 29 countries of the English, Dutch, French and Spanish Caribbean, 33 regional agencies, 15 bilateral and multilateral agencies and 10 development partners.

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE FIFTEENTH MEETING OF MINISTERS OF CARIFORUM (THE CARIBBEAN FORUM OF AFRICAN CARIBBEAN AND PACIFIC STATES (ACP)), 18-19 OCTOBER 2007, PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI

The Ministers of the Caribbean Forum of the African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) States CARIFORUM held their Fifteenth Meeting in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on 18-19 October 2007.

The Ministers reiterated the Region’s dismay at the European Commission’s unilateral denunciation of the Sugar Protocol on 30 September 2007.

They also requested that given the extreme importance of the Banana Industry to the Region, serious consideration be given to negotiating for the extension of financial support to this Sector beyond 2009.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE SIXTEENTH MEETING OF THE COUNCIL FOR HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT (COHSOD) OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM),  10-12 OCTOBER 2007, GEORGETOWN, GUYANA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  The Sixteenth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which focussed on Youth and Culture, was convened at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown, Guyana on 10-12 October 2007 under the theme, Realising the Potential of Youth and Culture in the Development of the Community.

The Hon. Cynthia Forde, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport, Barbados chaired the Meeting.

I am extremely pleased today to be the one afforded the opportunity to pay tribute to my friend, Dr Lucy Steward, a national of Trinidad and Tobago and a true Caribbean citizen, who will shortly be demitting office as Registrar of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), one of our premier institutions and one as old as CARICOM itself.
