(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Eighteenth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) which focussed on Education and Health was convened under the theme: “Winds of change: Education and Health collaborating to advance Human and Social Development” was held at the Ritz Carlton, Golf and Spa, Montego Bay, Jamaica, 3-4 June 2009.

The Twelfth Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of the Caribbean Community was held in Kingston, Jamaica 8-9 May 2009, under the Chairmanship of the Hon. Dr. Kenneth Baugh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica. The Ministers attending were, the Hon. Winston Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda, the Hon. T. Brent Symonette, M.P., Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Bahamas; Senator, the Hon.

SMALL RED MITE THREATENING PALMS IN THE CARIBBEAN
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The palm tree which is so synonymous with the tourism industry in the Caribbean is under threat from a small red mite that has taken root and is severely affecting palm trees across the Caribbean Basin.
It was revealed by a scientist yesterday (15 July 2008) at a symposium on invasive species in Miami that the Red Palm Mite, which is believed to have first arrived in the Caribbean in 2003, could now be found in 12 Caribbean islands, Venezuela and two counties in the US State of Florida.

1. The Sixth UK-Caribbean Forum took place in London 14-16 July. The Forum was co-chaired by the Hon. Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and current Chair of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations of the Caribbean Community, and by the Rt. Hon. David Miliband, MP, Secretary of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
