CARIFORUM gears up for key EPA Meeting

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Trinidad and Tobago will, on 27 September 2012, play host to the Second Meeting of the Trade and Development Committee (TDC) under the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM)-European Union (EU) Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

A preparatory meeting of CARIFORUM Officials, also to be held in Trinidad and Tobago, will be convened ahead of the TDC.

CARICOM CANDIDATE ELECTED AS NEW PAHO DIRECTOR

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr. the Hon. Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia and Secretary-General of CARICOM, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, have expressed their delight at the election of the CARICOM Candidate, Dr. Carissa Etienne as the new Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM), of which the Republic of Haiti is an integral part, welcomes this Regional Coalition for Water and Sanitation to Eliminate Cholera in the Island of Hispaniola.

This initiative further consolidates efforts at addressing the public health challenge of the cholera epidemic which followed the devastating earthquake experienced by Haiti in January 2010.

The 27th Olympiad memories of the sterling performances and monumental achievement of the Region’s athletes remain fresh in our hearts and minds. And now the Region’s cricketers have added to this sense of euphoria by their resounding victory at the World T20 Championships.

For 2012 we are focusing on addressing the prevention and control of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) among the Regions’ children.
