MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM), AMBASSADOR IRWIN LAROCQUE, ON THE OCCASION OF CARIBBEAN STATISTICS DAY 15 OCTOBER 2012

​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Monday, 15 October 2012 marks the fourth observance by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) of Caribbean Statistics Day, which is aimed not only at raising the profile of statistics and statisticians across the Region but also at recognising the crucial role of statistics in the advancement of the daily lives of the people of our Community.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) As Caribbean Community athletes continue their drive to excellence, “they will inspire their peers and indeed the entire Community to emulate them in their commitment and dedication.”

This was the sentiment expressed by the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque in a message praising the performance of the Region’s athletes at the recently concluded London 2012 Olympic Games.

EPA OFFICIALS AN INTEGRAL PART OF 2ND CARIFORUM-EU BUSINESS FORUM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Coming on the heels of a first of its kind coordination and network building meeting for officials of national Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) implementation units of the fifteen CARIFORUM states on 2 and 3 August in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, a strong contingent of those officials are gathered in London this week for a meeting where the CARIFORUM-EU EPA is taking centre stage.

PRIVATE SECTOR SHOULD CAPITALIZE ON EPA BY BEING SEIZED OF “MICRO ISSUES”, HON. ANTHONY HYLTON SAYS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Speaking to members of the international media at a press conference following opening remarks delivered on the occasion of the launching of the two-day 2nd CARIFORUM-EU Business Forum in London on August 8, the Hon. Anthony Hylton, MP, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce of Jamaica implored the Region’s private sector operators who have had a mixed record of utilizing the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) not to be “bogged down by a focus on macro level issues.”

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Chairman of the Caribbean Community Dr the Honourable Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia has saluted the achievement of Grenada’s first Olympic medallist, Mr Kirani James who won the 400 metres at the London 2012 Games on Monday.

CARICOM SG congratulates Jamaica on golden jubilee

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) As Jamaica celebrates its 50th anniversary of independence, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has hailed the strides that the country has made on the national, regional and international fronts.

In a congratulatory message to the Most Honourablae Portia Simpson-Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica, Ambassador LaRocque recalled that Jamaica was one of the inaugural signatories to the Treaty of Chaguaramas and continued to play an instrumental role in the integration movement.
