CARICOM After School Activity Programme (ASAP) workshop kicks off in Anguilla

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The first of a series of workshops in preparation for the implementation of the pilot project for the CARICOM After School Activity Programme (ASAP) began on Monday in Anguilla.
The workshop which is being implemented by the Caribbean Sport and Development Agency was attended by twenty one persons consisting of teachers, coaches, sports administrators, and students from across Anguilla.

The current situation in DR

• The Dominican Constitution up to 2010 recognised in principle, that in keeping with the legal principle of jus solis “all persons born in the territory of the  Dominican Republic” are Dominican citizens. However, a loophole allowed the authorities to deny the children of undocumented persons with such citizenship since they were judged to be ‘in transit’.

CEBO hosts first Community Based Workshop in Guyana

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     On Wednesday, 20 November 2013, at the Princess Hotel, Providence, Guyana, a cross–section of stakeholders, including: parliamentarians; the judiciary, faith-based organisations; the private sector; civil society organisations; and youth will come together for a national consultation  under the PANCAP Justice for All Programme. The consultation is being spearheaded by the PANCAP Coordinating Unit in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

 

CARICOM Bureau meets on DR court ruling

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     A Special Meeting of the Bureau of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be held on Tuesday 26 November at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago to discuss the effect of the Dominican Republic Constitutional Court’s ruling on nationality.

CEBO hosts first Community Based Workshop in Guyana

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The regional Creativity for Employment and Business Opportunity (CEBO) is a direct result of the recommendations of the report of the CARICOM Commission on Youth Development which identified entrepreneurship development as a priority in countering youth unemployment.

CARIFORUM and EU reaffirm commitment to trade and development partnership

CARIFORUM and European Union (EU) trade officials held a one-day meeting in Grenada on Thursday 21 November, at which they reaffirmed the two regions' commitment to their close trade and development partnership.

The two sides discussed progress made so far in putting the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) into practice. The EPA aims to promote trade and investment, underpin regional integration, and foster sustainable development.

Staff Talent Celebrations begin at the CARICOM Secretariat

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The 2013 edition of the CARICOM Secretariat’s annual staff talent celebration was declared open on Monday by the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community Ambassador Irwin LaRocque at the Secretariat Headquarters, Turkeyen Guyana.
Speaking at the opening of the showcase Ambassador LaRocque said the event, now in its 11th year, was a celebration of the talent and culture of the Caribbean Community. He said it was a fitting way for staff at the Secretariat to celebrate their talents.
