(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Officials involved in the field of statistics will next week begin a four-day training session that will focus on the status of and requirements for the Region as it prepares for the post-2015 era.

The Training Workshop by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, with support from the Tenth European Development Fud (EDF), will be held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, 26-29 May.

The Meeting targets a cross-section of personnel from National Statistical Offices (NSOs), and other statistics producing agencies and from selected thematic areas in the public sector in order to enable training and a comprehensive review of the indicators required to inform the various dimensions of development.

The workshop’s main objective is to provide focused training on and enable review of the Regional contextual issues and the statistics and indicators that will form the basis of the changing development environment that would have implications for the post-2015 era.

Specifically, the workshop will provide information on the global issues and concerns of the post-2015 era that will supersede the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It will provide training and review of the statistics and indicators that are being compiled by countries as part of the core data sets in Economic, Social/Gender, Environment and ICT Statistics.

In addition, the forum will review the Regional and national priorities as informed by the Strategic Plan CARICOM 2015-2019, and the implications for the statistics and indicators to be produced by Member States.

Participants will also critically review the core Regional statistics and indicators in the context of the global indicator framework recommended for the monitoring of the post-2015 agenda as it relates to indicators of the Caribbean Specific Millennium Development Goals (CSMDGs).
