May 25, 2015

The Caribbean Community heartily extends congratulations to the Republic of Guyana on the celebration of forty-nine years of independence.

During its 49 years of Independence, Guyana has played an active leadership role in fostering regional unity, particularly its prominence in the formation of CARIFTA and CARICOM.  Regional integration has consistently been an integral part of Guyana’s development and this has assisted in fuelling the country’s growth.  The country has made great strides in the period and its people have shown great resilience.

As a founding member of the Community and home to the Headquarters of the Caribbean Community, Guyana continues to play an important role in the advancement of regional integration efforts.

Excellency, the Community joins the Government and People of Guyana in celebrating this Forty-Ninth Anniversary of Independence and extends best wishes for the continued progress and sustainable development of the country.”
