Israel’s first ever Ambassador to CARICOM presents his credentials

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, on Tuesday said he looked forward to the development of a more structured and formal mechanism for cooperation between Israel and CARICOM.
He made this statement during a ceremony at the CARICOM Secretariat headquarters, Turkeyen, Guyana, where Ambassador to CARICOM from Israel Amiram Magid presented his credentials. Ambassador Magid is the first Israeli Ambassador to CARICOM.

Your Excellency, Ladies and Gentleman. Today it is my pleasure to be a part of an historic moment for the Caribbean Community and for Israel.  Ambassador, as I accept your letter of credence, your accreditation as Israel’s first Plenipotentiary Representative to CARICOM is welcomed by our Community.

Ensure projects agreed upon, address challenges of Member States - Secretary General urges CARIFORUM Ministers

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, on Thursday urged CARIFORUM Ministers to ensure projects agreed upon address challenges faced by Member States.
He was speaking during the Twenty-first Meeting of the CARIFORUM Council of Ministers held in Grenada on October 31, 2013.

It is quite fitting that such a discussion about the future of the African Caribbean Pacific Group of States (ACP) should take place in the Caribbean, for it is in this Region that the idea was conceived and it was this Region that played a pivotal role in the formation of this grouping.  It is also fortunate that among the participants over the next two days are some who were present at the 1972 informal discussion in Georgetown, Guyana among Foreign Ministers of Africa and the Caribbean which eventually led to the ACP. I refer to Sir Shridath Ramphal and Sir Edwin Carrington.

Professional Statisticians’ association launched

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)    The Caribbean Association of Professional Statisticians (CAPS) whose motto is `Promoting Statistics for Sustainable Development’ was launched on Monday in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis.
The Association was launched during the opening ceremony of the Thirty-Eighth Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS), and the Twenty-third Meeting of the Regional Census Coordinating Committee (RCCC).

CARICOM USES ANIMATION TO HELP IN FIGHT AGAINST YOUTH CRIME AND VIOLENCE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Twenty Trinidadian youngsters learned how animation principles can be used to create animated stories about their life and how they perceive their future.
Squash and stretch, anticipation and staging were among twelve basic principles of animation explained to the young participants at the Youth Training Centre (YTC) in Trinidad and Tobago during a one-day workshop on Friday 25 October, staged under the CARICOM Programme on Crime and Violence Prevention.
