Grenada hold talks with IMF

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – The Grenada government says it has held talks with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) “on the parameters for a possible new Fund programme”. An official statement said that the IMF team was led by Ms. Aliona Cebotari and that the discussions focused on “the current economic situation in Grenada, the envisaged reform agenda of the new Government, its priorities and plans for growth and job creation, and the need to return the public debt to a sustainable footing through a comprehensive restructuring”. Opposition leader concerned about approach to construction of new airport

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC - Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace has voiced concern about the Government’s approach to building the Argyle International airport. Parliament on Thursday debated the EC$208 million Supplementary Appropriations Bill containing four loans for the airport. Eustace likened the construction of the airport to “a one-lane track on which there are 12 runners….… and therefore, nobody can pass the airport. …All the others must wait.”

Mitchell administration points to progress during first 100 days in office

NEW YORK, CMC – Grenada’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Business, Nickolas Steele, claims the new Keith Mitchell administration has accomplished more in its first 100 days in office compared to what was accomplished by the former administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Tillman Thomas . “In my opinion, we have achieved more that what the NDC achieved in 4 ½ years,” Steele told the Caribbean Media Corporation in an interview on Wednesday.

Eastern Caribbean countries urged to do more for disabled children

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC - Eastern Caribbean countries were Tuesday urged to work towards making their societies more inclusive for children with all types of disabilities. UNICEF Representative for the Eastern Caribbean Area Khin-Sandi Lwin issued the challenge to countries to intensify efforts to fully include children with all forms of disabilities as the UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Area Office released the State of the World’s Children 2013 Report and a companion sub regional supplement which focussed on children with disabilities.

New salary increases for public workers

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – The Grenada government says it has started paying public workers salary increases five years after their last hike in wages. The Keith Mitchell government, which came to office in February, complaining of a high national debt and urging the population to help turn around a sluggish economy, said that the new salaries went into effect from the end of last month.

OAS CSEP Project Host Workshop on Energy Efficiency Designs for Office and Public Buildings in Tropical Climates

The Organisation of Amercan States (OAS) Secretariat through the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Program (CSEP) and the Energy Efficiency Working Group of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), hosted a workshop on energy efficiency designs for office and public buildings in tropical climates. The event took place at the Bay Gardens Inn in Rodney Bay from February 28th through March 1st, 2013. The CARICOM Secretariat is a Partner of the CSEP Project.
