Please see below the text of the Secretary-General's message to Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. the Hon. Keith Rowley:

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) extends hearty congratulations to the Government and People of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on the occasion of the country’s Sixtieth Anniversary of Independence on 31 August 2022.

The People of Trinidad and Tobago should be proud of their outstanding achievements, and of the indelible contributions to the Caribbean region and the world. The nation’s citizens have a record of excellence in the creative arts, academia, diplomacy and sports.

Honourable Prime Minister, your leadership in the Quasi-Cabinet of CARICOM Heads of Government with responsibility for regional security and energy issues has been most valuable. Indeed, your collaborative support on the range of critical issues facing the Community underlines the importance of the leadership role of Trinidad and Tobago as an original signatory to the Treaty of Chaguaramas, and a founding member of the Caribbean Community.

As the country celebrates its Diamond Jubilee under the theme “#together60”, CARICOM pledges its support to the Government and People of Trinidad and Tobago in their continuing quest for sustainable development and for the realisation of their aspirations.
