A crucial year for the Reform Process – CARICOM SG

The Thirty-Ninth Meeting of the Community Council of Ministers opened on 9 January 2017, at the CARICOM headquarters, Guyana, under the chairmanship of Guyana’s Vice President and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Carl Greenidge. In his remarks to the Official Opening, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Amb. Irwin LaRocque told the gathering that 2017 was “a crucial year for the Community’s Reform Process, as it was the mid-point of the five-year (2015-2019) Strategic Plan for the Community, a foundational element of the process.

Communique at the conclusion of a PANCAP hosted Knowledge Synthesis and Best Practices Workshop to build capacity of Civil Society Organizations and National Aids Programme Managers within the region

The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV & AIDS, PANCAP, hosted a three–day workshop (November 22 -24) in Port of Spain, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, on Knowledge Synthesis and Best Practices for over forty (40) leaders of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and National AIDS Programme (NAP) Managers in the Caribbean. The Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, as host Minister of Health, delivered the keynote address in which he stressed the critical importance of leadership and committed his support as a champion for the regional and global agenda for ending AIDS by the year 2030.

I extend to all best wishes for a bright, prosperous and productive New Year as we enter 2017, the Forty-Fourth Year of our Community.

 

This year marks the mid-point of our Five-Year Strategic Plan for the period 2015-2019, a foundational element in the Community’s Reform Process.  That process is geared towards ensuring that our people feel the impact of the integration movement in their daily lives. Integration is not merely about systems and institutions. It is mostly about people.

 

Defining Guyana’s role in CARICOM Energy thrust

Guyana is firmly committed to pursuing the path of renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE), and has taken initiatives that testify to that obligation. The country has embraced the concept of a Green Economy, which is intended to provide a holistic, integrated approach to national development. This encompasses areas such as effective waste management, efficient water management, clean transportation, energy efficiency and energy conservation, and renewable energy usage, according to Guyana’s Public Infrastructure Minister, Mr. David Patterson.

Seeds of change began to bear fruit in 2016 – CARICOM Secretary-General

We have come to the end of another year of service to our Community. When the history of this year is written, it will record that the seeds of change in our Secretariat and our Community began to bear fruit in 2016,” Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said.

He made the assertion in an end-of-year message in which he provided details of the strides that were taken in the reform process that the Secretariat and Community have embarked on.
