The Caribbean region’s ability to respond to crisis situations and its early warning capacity have been greatly strengthened, thanks to the Global Crisis Response Support Programme (GCRSP).

The general thinking at the Fifth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF V) held from 23 – 25 January, 2017, in The Bahamas, was that while there is steady progress, the challenges of transitioning to clean energy can be solved if they are placed in a political context.
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – Ms. Bernadette Lewis, Secretary General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), made a call for strong collaboration among stakeholders to use information and communication technologies (ICTs) to empower people with disabilities (PWDs). Ms Lewis said that “it requires the involvement of Governments, People with disabilities and the Organisations that serve them, ICT Service Providers, Network Operators, Regulators and the support of corporate citizens, with whom the CTU is prepared to facilitate.” Ms.
Guyana’s President and current Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), H.E. David Granger, called on the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to satisfy the needs of all its members. He was addressing the Fifth Summit of Heads of State and Government, last Wednesday, 25 January 2017, in the Dominican Republic. President Granger told the “partnership of large and small states’ comprising 33 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America that it must operate as a “Community of Citizens”, which respected and protected all of its citizens.
The Fifth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF) concluded in Nassau, The Bahamas on Thursday following two days of robust discussions centred on the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) transition to more efficient and clean energy. The Forum elicited calls for sustainable energy champions at the national and regional levels, predictable laws and regulations, enhanced planning and strategy for development, and enhanced engagement with the private sector. Speaking at the closing ceremony at the British Colonial Hilton Nassau, Ms.
The Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP)and Caribbean Faith Leaders will host a consultation on ending HIV and AIDS by 2030. The consultation takes place on 1-2 February 2017, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and is being co-funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and AIDS HealthCare Foundation.
The Fifth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF V) opens in Nassau, The Bahamas, on Monday, 23 January, 2017, under the theme ‘Future Energy 2027’. Prime Minister of The Bahamas, the Hon. Perry Christie, will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony following remarks by representatives the German Agency for International Cooperation, the Government of Canada, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the United States Government, the Organisation of American States (OAS), and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat.
