Excellency, I wish to welcome you to the Headquarters of the Caribbean Community as you present your Letters of Credence as the first Plenipotentiary Representative of Botswana.

I have no doubt that your wealth of experience as a practitioner of diplomacy and representative of your country, in Europe, and now in the Caribbean and Latin America, will be applied accordingly, as you carry out the duties which have been entrusted to you by your Government.

Representatives of Faith Based Organizations across the Caribbean Community.  I think it is appropriate that I commence with a few words from the Good Book which guides our beliefs. 

“Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity” (Psalm 133). “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and fortress” (Psalm 91).

CARICOM Secretary General commends Canada as an exemplary global leader in development assistance

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)    Secretary General of the Caribbean Community Ambassador Irwin LaRocque on Wednesday commended Canada for its role as an exemplary global leader in development assistance. Ambassador LaRocque was speaking during an accreditation ceremony where the newly appointed Ambassador to CARICOM from Canada Her Excellency Nicole Giles presented her credentials at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown Guyana.

SG reiterates call for Member States to make CCJ their Final Court

I am privileged to speak on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) at this Ceremony honouring Mme Justice Bernard, one of the inaugural Judges, and the first female Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice. Her appointment to that high office was a proud moment for us in the Community, given that Justice Bernard was the recipient of the Eighth CARICOM Triennial Award for Women in 2005, evidence that she has distinguished herself in numerous areas, two of which are of particular significance to the Caribbean Community.

CARICOM gets new Deputy Secretary-General

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Her Excellency Manorma Soeknandan is the new Deputy Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat.
Ambassador Soeknandan, a national of Suriname, assumed duties at the CARICOM Secretariat on 1 February, 2014. She succeeds Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite.

CARICOM Statement on the Situation in Venezuela

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community is concerned by the confrontations which have taken place in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela over the past few days in the course of demonstrations.  CARICOM deplores the deaths of three persons arising from the resulting acts of violence.

South African envoy accredited to CARICOM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of South Africa further cemented their ties on Tuesday with the accreditation of Her Excellency Maureen Isabella Modiselle as Ambassador to CARICOM.
Ambassador Modiselle presented her credentials to Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary-General of CARICOM, at a ceremony at the CARICOM Secretariat, and gave the assurance of her country’s cooperation and loyalty in promoting the ideals and objectives of the Community.

CARICOM to host first Regional Inter Faith Conference

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will host its first Regional Interfaith Conference on Monday. The conference will be held in Antigua and Barbuda at the Jolly Beach Resort and Spa. It will be preceded by an Inter-faith Service to be held on Sunday.
