Region’s Nurses lauded for contributing to one of the world’s highest immunization rates

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean can boast of having one of the highest immunization rates in the world - even better than the United States, and credit for this must go to the Region’s nurses.

Assistant Secretary General for Human and Social Development at the CARICOM Secretariat Dr. Douglas Slater made the point as he addressed  the opening ceremony for the Forty-Second Annual General Meeting of the Regional Nursing Body, at the CARICOM Headquarters in Guyana on Tuesday.

Services Programme Advisory Committee meets

A two-day meeting of the Regional Services Programme Advisory Committee began Monday morning at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana.

Among the matters participants will address are the strategic and action plans for cultural and entertainment services, sport, information and communication technologies services, education services, health and wellness services, professional and financial services; and the state of funding under the 10th EDF.

UN lauds CARICOM’s lead role on climate change, HIV/AIDS

The United Nations (UN) has lauded the lead role the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is taking in relation to Climate Change, Non Communicable Diseases and HIV and AIDS.

The most recent acknowledgement of the Community’s advocacy in those areas, came Friday morning during the brief opening ceremony of the Eighth General Meeting between CARICOM and the United Nations System at the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana.

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the CARICOM Secretariat on the occasion of the Eighth General Meeting of the Caribbean Community, its Associate Institutions and the United Nations (UN) System.

 

A look at the overview of our co-operation reveals an impressive range of areas covered to assist the Community in its development efforts. I want to thank the UN and its Agencies for their support and look forward to the strengthening of our co-operation.

The Twenty-Seventh Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) on

(Education and Children) was convened under the theme: Safeguarding our Region’s Future: Reshaping education for the Twenty-First Century” at the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Georgetown, Guyana on 16-17 July 2015.
