COTED concludes in Georgetown

The two-day Meeting of the Forty-First Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) concluded on Friday in Georgetown, Guyana.

A special session with representatives of the Region’s private sector led the Meeting’s heavy agenda which also included deliberations on progress related to the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), and external economic and trade matters. There were also discussions on health matters, particularly with regard to the effects of non communicable diseases on the Region’s workforce.

Active engagement with private sector critical – COTED Chair

The private sector’s importance in Regional growth and development was the highlight of remarks made at the opening ceremony of the Council for Trade and Economic Development’s Forty-First Meeting in Georgetown, Guyana.

Trade Ministers and representatives of the private sector of the Region continued their engagement at a special session immediately following the opening ceremony.

COTED holds special session with Regional private sector Thursday

A special session on Thursday with the Region’s private sector will headline the final Ministerial Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) for this year as efforts continue to position the business sector to drive growth and development.

The private sector is considered a critical partner in the Region’s quest for economic resilience, which is a key element of the Community’s Five-Year Strategic Plan.

CARICOM shocked, saddened at passing of a ‘son of the Caribbean’

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has expressed shock and sadness at the sudden death of the Head the University of Guyana’s Law Department and former Head of the Coordinating Unit for the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Jamaican Sheldon McDonald.

 Mr. McDonald, 64, died on Wednesday from injuries received in a car crash in Guyana.

Walking for Energy: Region kicks of CARICOM Energy Week

CARICOM Energy Week 2015 was kicked off on Saturday 7 November with a series of Energy walks in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada and Guyana.

We are pleased to present these photo highlights of the Kilo Walk in Guyana which began and ended at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown. Government Ministers Jaipaul Sharma and David Patterson, University of Guyana students, CARICOM Secretariat staff and members of the public participated in the event.
