The CARICOM Elections Observation Mission to Trinidad and Tobago’s general elections on Monday say voters were able to cast their ballots without intimidation or harassment and the results reflect the will of the people.
The Mission, in its Preliminary Statement issued Tuesday, however called for guidelines and regulations on the use of social media in election campaigns, noting that one of the major concerns on election day was the alleged sending out of text messages advising electors how to vote.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago by way of letter dated 15 July 2015 invited CARICOM to deploy a mission to observe the General Elections which will be held in the country on 7 September 2015.
As a result a twelve (12) member Group representing the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is now in Trinidad and Tobago to observe the General Elections.
Once again the youth of the Caribbean Community have demonstrated without a doubt that a nation’s size is no barrier to global success.

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has expressed the Community’s sympathy to the Government and People of Dominica over the tragic loss of life and the widespread damage caused by the devastating passage of Tropical Storm Erika over the island, Thursday.
Erika’s heavy rainfall left four confirmed dead and more than 30 missing and caused significant damage to the infrastructure, washing away large sections of road and making some rural communities inaccessible.

The activity is part of a CARICOM Secretariat public education project which exposes tertiary students to the CSME through field missions. With funding from the European Union, the students from Grenada institutions will travel to Belize and diagnose the operations of the CSME.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has congratulated sister Caribbean nation Cuba and the United States on their ongoing moves to normalise relations.
In a Statement to coincide with today’s reopening of the US Embassy in Havana, following the recent reopening of the Cuban Embassy in Washington D.C., CARICOM said it will continue to encourage both sides, with which it has close relations, to complete the normalisation process in the interest of regional and hemispheric harmony
