Address by Brigadier David Granger, MSS President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana at the Opening of the Thirty–Sixth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, Bridgetown, Barbados 2 JULY 2014

I am honoured to join fellow Heads of Government here in beautiful Barbados at this Thirty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.  We wish to record our gratitude to our host, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, to the government and to the friendly people of this island, for the gracious welcome extended to our delegation and for the excellent arrangements made for this Conference.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     This is the view of CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin La Rocque, in his Remarks to the Thirty-Sixth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, which opened today, July 2, in Barbados.
 
Ambassador LaRocque noted that “private sector investment and entrepreneurship” were key elements for a sustained growth path as well as to combat the stubbornly high unemployment rate.

Welcome to the Thirty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.  The excellent arrangements for this evening’s Opening Ceremony is a fine example of how our hosts, the Government and people of Barbados, have organised this Meeting to create an atmosphere conducive to productive discussions.  The CARICOM family and guests are all beneficiaries of your gracious and generous hospitality.

 

“CARICOM Ambassadors Meeting with His Excellency Andres Navarro Garcia, Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic”

(MFA) – 30th June, 2015: Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic H.E. Andres Navarro Garcia on Tuesday, 30th June 2015 addressed The Permanent Council of the Organisation of American States (OAS), delivered a presentation on the current situation regarding relations with Haiti, the regularization of persons of Haitian descent, the concerns of CARICOM and mechanisms to address these concerns. Ambassador Bocchit Edmond of Haiti also delivered a statement. The Bahamas also presented on behalf of CARICOM.

 

SG hosts Ambassadors accredited to CARICOM

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque hosted Ambassadors accredited to CARICOM to a Breakfast Meeting on Thursday morning.  The Ambassadors are in Barbados for the Opening Ceremony of the 36th Regular Meeting of  CARICOM Heads of Government which begins at 4:30 this afternoon.

The Secretary-General updated the Ambassadors on the issues which go before the Heads for their 2-4 July Meeting.

CARICOM SG’s social media interaction with youths a success

Youth from across the Region as well as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) diaspora Monday evening got the opportunity to engage in a live social media interaction with the CARICOM Secretary General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. The event was hosted just before the Thirty-Sixth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in Barbados, which formally opens on Thursday and ends on Saturday.

Stage set for CARICOM Summit in Barbados

The theme Vibrant Societies, Resilient Economies, will guide Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government as they tackle a packed agenda at their Thirty-Sixth Summit that will be held 2-4 July, 2015, in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago take titles: CARICOM 10K

Guyanese Cleveland Forde and Trinidadian Tonya Nero made it two in a row when they retained their male and female titles respectively in the 2015 edition of the CARICOM 10K race held in Bridgetown Barbados, Sunday 28 June 2015.
Forde followed up his 2014 win with victory in a close and exciting race among the top males. He clocked 33 minutes 11 seconds to edge out Jamaican Kirk Browne 33.15, and six time winner of the event Pamenos Ballantine of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 33.19.

CARICOM extends condolences to Turkey on death of former President

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has extended condolences to the Government and People of Turkey on the passing of the country’s former President His Excellency Suleyman Demirel.

Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque in his message, said President Demirel will be remembered for his patriotism and leadership, thanks to which, Turkey’s industralisation and development experienced significant progress.
