The 15-mmber Caribbean Community (CARICOM) grouping has congratulated Mia Mottley, the first ever woman to head a government in Barbados with Secretary general Irwin la Rocque saying he is looking forward to welcoming her at the grouping’s next summit to be held in Jamaica in July.
CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has congratulated new Barbados Prime Minister Hon. Mia Mottley on her ‘truly historic achievements’ following Thursday’s General Elections, and said it will be his pleasure to welcome her to the next meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in Jamaica on 4-6 July.
Ms Mottley’s Barbados Labour Party (BLP) won all 30 seats in the Barbados House of Assembly, making her the country’s first female Prime Minister.
Programme Manager, Human Resource Development at the CARICOM Secretariat, Dr. Laurette Bristol, has stressed that the HRD Strategy belonged to the Caribbean Community and not to the CARICOM Secretariat.
Ministers responsible for CARICOM affairs have recommended that the Strategic Framework of the CARICOM Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics (RSDS) be placed before CARICOM Heads of Government for endorsement at their July 2018 Meeting in Jamaica.

His Excellency Drs. Dominicus Supratikto, became the first Ambassador of Indonesia to CARICOM when he presented his letters of credence to the Secretary-General on Wednesday at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters, Georgetown, Guyana. Ambassador Supratikto is based in Suriname.
The Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) will meet this week from the 2–4 May, 2018. The main focus of the meeting will be the implementation of the Human Resource Development (HRD) 2030 Strategy.
