CARICOM congratulates Barbados new Prime Minister

The 15-mmber Caribbean Community (CARICOM) grouping has congratulated Mia Mottley, the first ever woman to head a government in Barbados with Secretary general Irwin la Rocque saying he is looking forward to welcoming her at the grouping’s next summit to be held in Jamaica in July.

Secretary-General looks forward to welcoming PM Mottley to next CARICOM Heads Meeting

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has congratulated new Barbados Prime Minister Hon. Mia Mottley on her ‘truly historic achievements’ following Thursday’s General Elections, and said it will be his pleasure to welcome her to the next meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in Jamaica on 4-6 July.

Ms Mottley’s  Barbados Labour Party (BLP) won all 30 seats in the Barbados House of Assembly, making her the country’s first female Prime Minister.

CARICOM Regional Statistics Strategy advances to the Conference of Heads of Government

Ministers responsible for CARICOM affairs have recommended that the Strategic Framework of the CARICOM Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics (RSDS) be placed before CARICOM Heads of Government for endorsement at their July 2018 Meeting in Jamaica.

The recommendation came after the Ministers deliberated on the Strategic Framework of the CARICOM RSDS during the Forty-Second Meeting of the Community Council of Ministers (Council) in Georgetown, Guyana, on 16 May, 2018.

CARPHA urges region to prepare for possibility of severe dengue outbreak

(CARPHA PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – While chikungunya and zika, which swept the region in 2014 and 2016 are not expected back anytime soon, CARPHA is warning, “gear-up for the possibility of a major outbreak of dengue fever in 2018.”

This because as before, the pre-conditions of abundant mosquito vector levels still exist, and increased levels of dengue are being reported in Latin America and elsewhere.

CARICOM and Indonesia strengthen links

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque described the presentation of credentials by Indonesia’s Ambassador as “a hallmark in relations” between the Community and Indonesia.

His Excellency Drs. Dominicus Supratikto, became the first Ambassador of Indonesia to CARICOM when he presented his letters of credence to the Secretary-General on Wednesday at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters, Georgetown, Guyana. Ambassador Supratikto is based in Suriname.
