CDB announces programme to support increased trade among CARICOM states

The Board of Directors of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved USD750,000 in funding for a programme that will assist the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) with strengthening intra-regional trade.

At least five countries – Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Guyana, Saint Lucia and Suriname – will benefit from three interventions to be implemented by the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ).

PM Gaston Browne and Cabinet sworn in

The Hon. Gaston Browne was on Thursday sworn in as Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda for the second time, following his landslide victory in general election held on Wednesday, 21 March, 2018. Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin and other Cabinet members were also sworn into office on Thursday.

 

The Prime Minister led his Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) to victory in yesterday’s General Elections, winning 15 of the 17 seats at stake, according to the preliminary results issued by electoral officials.

First female President of Trinidad and Tobago sworn in

Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes was sworn in today at the Queen’s Park Savannah as the sixth President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

A large crowd including Government Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior members of the Judiciary attended the swearing-in ceremony, the Office of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago said.

A number of students from primary and secondary schools also attended the event.

Saint Lucia gets CARICOM Development Fund support to jumpstart Village Tourism Initiative

The Government of Saint Lucia on Friday signed on for the 2nd cycle from the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF). Since its establishment, Saint Lucia has benefited from the CDF. For the first funding cycle, the Saint Lucia CAP (Country Assistance Programme) was valued at approximately USD $6.1 million or XCD $16.47 million in loans and grants and was designed to enhance private sector competitiveness and youth entrepreneurship.
