CARICOM acknowledges St. Kitts/Nevis’ role in Regional Integration on its 35th Independence Anniversary On Sep 18, 2018

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has congratulated the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis on the country’s 35th Anniversary of Independence, and noted that the Community has benefitted from the commitment of the country’s government and people towards the integration movement.

Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris especially acknowledged  the role of St. Kitts and Nevis in advancing issues related to Human Resource Development, Health and HIV/Aids, its portfolio in the Quasi-Cabinet of CARICOM.

CARICOM and Japan exploring further cooperation

Strengthening CARICOM-Japan relations, Asia’s potential as a source of tourism, and the importance of presenting CARICOM to that part of the world.

These formed part of an exchange of views when a delegation from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry paid a courtesy visit to the CARICOM Secretariat’s Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana on Monday. 

The possibility of Japan hosting World Expo 2025, for which it is bidding, was seen as an excellent opportunity to present CARICOM to that region.

Isaac expected to reach Eastern Caribbean islands Thursday

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Dominica, Guadeloupe and Martinique, and a Tropical Storm Watch for Antigua/Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts/Nevis, Saba and St. Eustatius.  However, forecasters say  Tropical Storm Isaac’s maximum sustained winds have decreased from 75 to about 60 mph (95 km/h) and further gradual weakening is expected during the next few days.

CARICOM Secretary-General hosts Estonia delegation

The Secretary-General of CARICOM, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, and senior officials of the CARICOM Secretariat met with Ambassador Margus Kolga of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia, to discuss cooperation between CARICOM and Estonia in information and communications technology, including e-government initiatives to benefit CARICOM Member States. Ambassador Kolga was accompanied by Ms. Mari Tomingas, also from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia.

Issues impacting lives of CARICOM Citizens get attention at COFAP Meeting in Barbados

CARICOM Finance and Planning Ministers were meeting in Barbados Tuesday to advance a number of development initiatives geared towards enhancing the use and operation of the Single Market and Economy.

It is the sixth Special Meeting of the Council for Finance and Planning (COFAP) and was convened under the Chairmanship of Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Mr Gaston Browne.

 

CARICOM SG recognises significant contribution of Trinidad and Tobago to regional integration

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has extended congratulations to the government and people of Trinidad and Tobago on the occasion of their 56th independence anniversary. The anniversary will be observed on 31 August.

In a message to Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. the Hon. Keith Rowley, Amb. LaRocque paid tribute to the creativity and dynamism of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

CARPHA Concludes Risk of Getting Zika in the Caribbean Low at this Time

Tuesday, August 14, 2018 — Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, August 13, 2018:  The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has concluded that Zika virus transmission in the Caribbean Region has been interrupted, and that the risk to residents and visitors to the Region of acquiring Zika is low. This follows a review by CARPHA of the data of the last 30 months pertinent to the situation.
