CARICOM Youth Leaders to Implement Climate Change Mitigation Projects Following Successful Training Initiative

CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs) and regional youth leaders spent four engaging days (23-26 April) at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, where they built their capacity to effect change on climate change and health issues. As part of the Pan American Health Organisation’s (PAHO) Climate Change and Health Project (CCH), young leaders across the Region are receiving education, funding, and training to create and implement projects in their communities that will address these critical issues.

Report highlighting the current state and future prospects of West Indies Cricket to be submitted to CARICOM Heads

Friday 3 May 2024 (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown): Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, announced that a report will be compiled on the future growth of West Indies Cricket when Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads meet in July in Grenada. This report will provide a comprehensive and reliable assessment of the current state and future prospects of West Indies Cricket.

Hon. Dr Terrence Drew, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, continues to raise the alarm about the increased instances of violent crime involving the use of illegal firearms in the Region. Dr Drew underscored this during the four-day Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) meeting, which began in St. Kitts and Nevis on Monday.

Regional Statisticians meet in Georgetown

Statisticians from across the Region are in Guyana for a training programme on statistical data and metadata eXchange (SDMX). The workshop, hosted by the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), is being held at the Bureau of Statistics office in Georgetown. It began on Monday, 22 April, and will conclude on Friday, 26 April.

CARIFORUM Capacity Building Intervention starts:  Youth investment, policies and prevention programmes, partnerships emphasised

The importance of investing in youth, including treatment and rehabilitation for those who are using and addicted to alcohol and other drugs, was underscored at the Official Opening of the Regional Adolescent Training Workshops on 4 February 2019 in Trinidad and Tobago. To this end, partnerships, relevant policies and adolescents’ prevention programmes, among others, were emphasised by speakers who represented the CARICOM Secretariat, Delegation of the European Union, Organisation of the American States (OAS) and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
