The call of Ms. Kerryann Ifill, Chair of the Advisory Panel for CARICOM Disabilities (APfCD), in a message to observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities today, is for "all governments and citizens of the Region to band to gather to protect, empower and uplift all persons with disabilities who are blessed to live among us!.
Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Special Rapporteur on Disabilities (CSRoD), Senator Dr. Floyd Morris, in a statement to observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), 3 December 2018, drew attention to the thin separation between being abled and being disabled. Calling for persons with disabilities to be treated with “dignity and respect” the CSRoD alluded to the high levels of violence and motor vehicle accidents in the Caribbean, and noted that “developing a disability [was] just a moment away”.
This year’s World AIDS Day theme “Know your status” encourages us to be tested to know whether we are HIV negative or positive. This theme is very relevant as the world has committed to Fast Track actions towards achieving the 90-90-90 treatment targets by the year 2020. The UNAIDS 2018 Global AIDS Monitoring (GAM) report informs us that there are an estimated 310,000 adults and children living with HIV in the Caribbean, of which nearly 55,000 are unaware that they have HIV.

The report will be launched in Egypt on 23 November to an international audience at a United Nations Environment (UN Environment) event, on the side-lines of the 14th Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The global summit on biological diversity is being held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from 17-29 November 2018.
