Greater resilience necessary to confront ‘new normal’ – CARICOM Secretary-General at agriculture meeting

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, makes remarks at the Opening of the 71st Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) Agriculture, at the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana.

The catastrophic hurricanes that ripped through Caribbean territories recently were likely to be the “new normal”, and provided the evidence of the reality of climate change, Caribbean Community Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said Friday.

CARICOM to Launch Online CSME Platforms

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)      The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will officially launch four (4) online platforms on Monday 25 October 2017.  These online platforms have been developed to help make the benefits of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) more accessible to CARICOM Nationals.

Regional network launched to collaborate on Zika, other vector-borne diseases

[CariVecNet] Mosquito borne diseases continue to impact the Caribbean’s social, economic and health sectors. Recent outbreaks of Zika (2016), and Chikungunya (2014) and the continued circulation of Dengue, highlight the need for an integrated approach to the prevention and control of these vector borne diseases (VBDs), especially since many countries depend on tourism as a major source of revenue.

CARIFESTA XIII ends in true Regional integration style



The Region’s cultural performers transformed the Kensington Oval in Barbados into a sea of Regional integration as they brought the curtains down on CARIFESTA XIII, Sunday night.  The Closing Ceremony for the ten-day festival featured performances from some of the region’s top music and dance groups, steel bands, and individual artistes, while delegates and patrons partied to the regional cultural mix.

 

CARICOM SG ASKS SWEDEN’S HELP ON BLACKLISTING ISSUE

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has urged Sweden to use its position in two major international organisations to highlight the unfair labelling of some of the Community’s Member States as “non-cooperative tax jurisdictions”.
