CARICOM Immigration, Customs Officers to receive training on CSME

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM Immigration and Customs Officers will undergo training next week to clarify the roles and functions of Border Officers. The training is also geared at ensuring that there is a common understanding of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) in general, and the Free Movement of Persons (FMP) in particular.

CARICOM ASG highlights progress in Youth Development

Assistant Secretary General In Charge of Human and Social Development at the CARICOM Secretariat Dr, Douglas Slater  has highlighted a number of areas where progress has been made in youth development in the Region. Dr. Slater was speaking at the opening ceremony for a CARICOM Youth Ambassadors Orientation and Capacity Building Workshop. The event is being held at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana and will conclude on Thursday 8 June, 2017.

UN Secretary - General opens Ocean Conference , call ing on countries to set aside short - term gain to avoid catastrophe

New York, 5 June — Warning that the special relationship between people and the ocean that brings untold benefits for life is under threat as never before, United Nations Secretary - General António Guterres told the opening of the Ocean Conference that the problems of the ocean — all created by human activity, can all be reversed and prevented with decisive, coordinated action. “ Oceans are a testing ground for t he principle of multilateralism, ” he said.

Caribbean Community to push for strong outcome at critical UN Oceans Conference

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will participate actively and pursue positive outcomes at the 5-9 June 2017 High Level United Nations Conference, which is expected to agree on a Call For Action to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. The Conference supports implementation of  Goal 14 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to transform the world –  part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by world leaders in 2015.
