As Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity afforded me to express a few thoughts on the occasion of this important milestone in Caribbean development

Secretary-General Carrington steps down

​“These last 18 years as Secretary-General have been the pinnacle of my public service career. I have, despite the odds, done all I could to help create a viable and secure Community for All. It has been a period of important achievements as well as significant disappointments. I leave satisfied and confident however, that the Caribbean Community now has a solid platform on which to continue to build the integration movement,” the Secretary-General said.

CARICOM facilitates regional media workshops

​Regional integration and its importance to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is the focus of Broadcasters and Newspaper Editors workshops which will be held in Grenada at the Flamboyant Hotel and Villas on the 26-27 and 29 -30 July respectively.

Broadcasters and newspaper editors from across the region will benefit from presentations on a variety of topics including; The CSME – Looking ahead; Free Movement of Skills and Occupation and Providing Professional Services in the CSME. In addition, there will be presentations on issues affecting the regional broadcast and print media.

Suriname to benefit from Competition Policy and Law seminar

​Competition Policy and Consumer Welfare will be the focus of a seminar scheduled for 13 July 2010 at the Torarica Hotel Paramaribo, Suriname.

The seminar is organized by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and funded by the 9th European Development Fund (EDF), Caribbean Integration Support Programme (CISP). It is one in a series of seminars on Competition Policy and Law facilitated throughout the region.

MORE CONCESSIONS FOR HAITI UNDER THE CSME

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The recovery efforts in Haiti was definitely a priority item on the agenda of the 31st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community when they got down to dealing with the business of the Community at the Rose Hall Resorts and Spa in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

CARICOM governance structure earmarked for review

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community at their 31st Regular Meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica decided to have another look at the Community’s governance structure.

To this end, they agreed to establish a special committee to conduct a review of several proposals on governance structures that were brought to the conference table. This Committee will be assisted by a Technical Working Group and would commence work “almost immediately.”
