THIRTY-FIRST REGULAR MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY, 4-7 JULY 2010, MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA.  STATEMENT OF CARICOM HEADS OF GOVERNMENT ON THE SITUATION OF HAITI

Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), including His Excellency René Préval, President of Haiti, held an in-depth discussion on the post-earthquake situation in Haiti at their Thirty-First Regular Meeting held in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The Secretaries General of the United Nations (UN) and of the Organisation of American States (OAS), as well as the Special Representative of the CARICOM Heads of Government on Haiti participated in this exchange of views.

OUTGOING CARICOM CHAIRMAN WANTS STREAMLINING OF NGO OPERATIONS IN HAITI

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit wants the operations of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Haiti recovery and reconstruction efforts to be stream-lined, and has called on the United Nations to assist in doing so.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have come to Montego Bay with a specific mission born of my recent stint as Chairman of this august body, cognizant of our limitations but fortified by our capacities and aspirations.

HAITI, CSME, FINANCIAL CRISIS IMPACT ON CARICOM SUMMIT AGENDA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Haiti’s ongoing recovery, the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), and the challenges the Region has faced due to the global economic and financial crisis, are among topics that will be addressed at the 31st Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government from 4-7 July 2010, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The Meeting will be formally opened on Sunday 4 July at the Half Moon Hotel in Montego Bay. The Conference Venue is the Rose Hall Resort and Spa, A Hilton Resort.
