ADDRESS OF H.E. AMBASSADOR IRWIN LAROCQUE SECRETARY GENERAL OF CARICOM AND SECRETARY GENERAL OF CARIFORUM, ON THE OCCASION OF THE 25TH ANNUAL DINNER OF THE DOMINICAN ASSOCIATION OF EXPORTERS (ADOEXPO) SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC DECEMBER 5TH, 2011

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) I would like to thank the Dominican Association of Exporters (ADOEXPO) for inviting me to address this gathering - my first engagement in the Dominican Republic as Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). I also address you in my capacity as the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM), a co-operation grouping that includes the Dominican Republic.

Inaugural meeting of EPA customs committee to be convened

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARIFORUM Officials will meet with their European Union counterparts in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on December 8, to convene the First Meeting of the Special Committee on Customs Cooperation and Trade Facilitation under the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

This Special Committee Meeting will be preceded by a CARIFORUM Preparatory Meeting on December 7.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) It is my pleasure and privilege to welcome Directors of Culture and other officials to this Twenty-First Meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC) on behalf of our Secretary General, His Excellency Ambassador Irwin LaRocque. I also bring very warm greetings from the Officer in Charge of the Directorate of Human and Social Development – Mrs. Myrna Bernard, who sent her regrets that she was unable to join us today due to another conflicting engagement.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM) HON. DR. DENZIL DOUGLAS, PRIME MINISTER OF ST. KITTS AND NEVIS, REGARDING THE ASSASSINATION PLOT DISCLOSED IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) views with deep concern the disclosure of an assassination plot against the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissesar, and some members of her Cabinet. CARICOM is relieved to know that this criminal plot was thwarted and commends the security forces of Trinidad and Tobago for their vigilance.

REGIONAL CULTURAL COMMITTEE PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE ARTISTS

 
 

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The flag ceremony with its pomp and fanfare that signaled the start of the 21st Meeting of the CARICOM Regional Cultural Committee in Suriname on Thursday, seguéd into a solemn and sombre minute of silence in honour of several Caribbean cultural icons who died between 2009 and 2010.

CARIFESTA IS BACK; SURINAME WILL HOST

 
 

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) It is now a fait accompli. Suriname will host the 11th staging of the Caribbean premier festival of the creative and performing arts in 2013; this after their first successful hosting in 2003.

CARICOM TO CONSULT ON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ACTION PLAN

  (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The CARICOM Secretariat has embarked on a series of stakeholder consultations in five Member States – Belize, Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica and St Vincent and the Grenadines - to solicit feedback on the draft CARICOM Youth Development Action Plan (CYDAP) 2012 - 2017.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) joins millions of people around the world in commemorating World AIDS Day – 1 December 2011. This year’s commemoration is appropriately themed “Getting to Zero: Zero New HIV Infections; Zero Discrimination; and Zero AIDS Related Deaths” calls on all of us to move beyond the traditional routine responses that have been employed in the past in fighting HIV and to use innovative and creative ways in reducing new HIV infections, deaths and discrimination.
