SG AND STAFF ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE COMMENCE FORMAL ENGAGEMENT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, on Tuesday17 January formally commenced dialogue on staff matters with the executive of the CARICOM Secretariat Staff Association.

President of the Staff Association, Mr. Timothy Odle, signalled the Association’s “full support” to the Secretary-General particularly at a time when new initiatives were about to be rolled out within the CARICOM Secretariat, towards greater efficiency of systems of operation.

CARICOM INAUGURATES AUDIT COMMITTEE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Mr Terrence Bastian, Auditor General of The Bahamas was on Tuesday elected as the first Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat’s Audit Committee.

CARICOM AND UK FOREIGN SECRETARY MEET IN GRENADA THIS WEEK

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Foreign Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be hosts to the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom (UK) at the 7th CARICOM-UK Forum which will be held in St George’s, Grenada from 20-22 January.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) stands in firm solidarity with the Government and People of Haiti as they observe the second anniversary of the devastating earthquake of 12 January 2010 and mourn and remember the many persons who perished that day. The Community also commiserates with those who lost loved ones and shares their grief as the country reflects on that fateful day and the pain and destruction wrought.

THIRD/FOURTH ISSUE OF THE EPA NEWSLETTER PUBLISHED

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The CARICOM Secretariat-based Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Implementation Unit today, 9 January 2012, published the combined third/fourth Issue of its flagship newsletter, EPA Implementation Bulletin. It is a Special Issue, dedicated to examining the state-of-play of EPA implementation at an important juncture in the implementation of the CARIFORUM-EU EPA. October 2011 marked the third year of implementation of the Agreement.

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) electoral observer mission to the general elections of Jamaica - preliminary statement

The CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission, at the invitation of the Government of Jamaica, monitored the conduct of the General and Regional Elections on 29 December 2011.

The Group of seven persons was deployed in two teams of two each and one of three to cover Election Day activities, in the parishes of St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St. Thomas and Kingston.

As mandated by the CARICOM Secretariat, the teams’ mission was to observe:

(i) the opening of the poll;

CARICOM electoral observer mission to Jamaica

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was invited by the Government of Jamaica to establish a Mission to observe the General Elections to be held on December 29, 2011.

In response to that invitation, a seven (7) member Observer Group under the leadership of Mr. Winston Estwick of Barbados, was selected. Mr. Estwick and three (3) members arrived in Jamaica on Monday, 26 December 2011.
