Dr Edward Green appointed UN Special Envoy on HIV/AIDS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The United Nations (UN) Secretary General, Ban-Ki - Moon, has appointed former CARICOM Secretariat Assistant Secretary-General, Dr. Edward Greene as UN Special Envoy for HIV in the Caribbean. In this role Dr. Greene will be responsible for advancing the cause of HIV/AIDs in accordance with the UN mandates, and in collaboration with the Executive Director of UNAIDS and the regional and national institutions in the Caribbean

PANCAP URGED TO BECOME A LEADER IN HUMAN RIGHTS

 
 

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have been called upon to revamp the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) by establishing the Partnership as the Caribbean’s leader in promoting human rights and developing legislation to protect the rights of those persons living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Joseph Gilbert, Minister of the Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development of Grenada at his first meeting of the COTED. I also wish to recognize the presence of Sir Edwin Carrington, Ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago to CARICOM and immediate past Secretary-General of CARICOM.

​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Let me start by officially welcoming Ambassador Irwin LaRocque to his first meeting of the COTED in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community. We are all aware of Ambassador LaRocque’s long-standing relationship with the COTED, first as the representative of Dominica and later as the Assistant Secretary-General for Trade and Economic Integration in the CARICOM Secretariat.

PANCAP’S ROLE CRITICAL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HIV AND AIDS

 

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) must sustain the Caribbean’s response to HIV and AIDS if the Region is to meet UNAIDS’ target of zero new infections, discrimination and AIDS –related deaths by 2015.
