BAHAMAS REAFFIRMS CONFIDENCE IN THE CARICOM SECRETARIAT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Newly accredited Bahamas envoy to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), His Excellency Picewell Forbes has conveyed his Government’s “utmost confidence” in the CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and the staff of the CARICOM Secretariat.

“I wish to reaffirm my Government’s recognition of the role of the Caribbean Community Secretariat in championing the cause of the membership of the Caribbean Community,” he added.

CARICOM OBSERVES ENERGY WEEK

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Next week, November 11-17, is CARICOM Energy Week, to be observed under the theme, Sustainable Energy Powering a Green economy.

CARICOM Energy Week, first observed last year, was established as an annual event based on a mandate from CARICOM Energy Ministers in 2011 to provide a platform for increased awareness about energy matters, given the critical importance of energy to economic development.

CARICOM STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH HURRICANE RAVAGED COUNTRIES

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has signalled the commitment of the Community to provide support where necessary to hurricane ravaged countries of Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba: this, after Hurricane Sandy barrelled a path through the Caribbean on his way to the US, taking lives and leaving billions of dollars of damage in its wake.

Draft Model Bills focus of EPA Meeting of Legislative Drafters

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkey, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat-based Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Implementation Unit is set to convene a Meeting of Legislative Drafters on 8-9 November in Antigua and Barbuda.

CARICOM YOUTH DUB SOCIAL MEDIA INTERACTION A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) More than 9, 000 young people logged on to new media platforms on Thursday afternoon, to participate in a two hour social media interaction with the CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.

Dubbed Live with SG and hosted by the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors, the live social media interaction facilitated by Dominican based COMESEE TV in partnership with the CARICOM Secretariat was hailed a resounding success by young people - and adults too - across the Region.

NEW BAHAMIAN ENVOY ACCREDITED TO CARICOM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) His Excellency Picewell Forbes, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Bahamas to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), on Tuesday presented his letters of credence to Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, at the CARICOM Secretariat.

The third Plenipotentiary Representative of the Bahamas to CARICOM, Ambassador Forbes is a veteran broadcaster and communications specialist.

Second Meeting of EPA Joint Council held in Brussels

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Second Meeting of the Joint CARIFORUM-EU Council under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) was held at the Headquarters of the Council of the European Union in Brussels, Belgium on 26 October 2012. The Meeting delved into challenges that have arisen in the implementation of the EPA and provided political guidance, with a view to ensuring that EPA implementation remains on track.

Thirteen of the fifteen signatory CARIFORUM States were in attendance, with eight Delegations led by Ministers.
