Jamaica’s Prime Minister receives CARICOM Review Commission report – VIDEO

Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Thursday (March 30) received the final report from the CARICOM Review Commission.

Chairman of the Commission former Prime Minister Hon. Bruce Golding presented the report to Prime Minister Holness during a visit to the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Commission comprised 17 members, along with ex-officio and support staff, from a wide cross section of sectors in Jamaica, including business, academia, the private sector and trade union am…ong others.

Sargassum project presents at the Smithsonian

A Saint Lucian project on the transformation of sargassum seaweed into organic compost will be showcased during the Earth Optimism Summit at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.

The project, the brainchild of Johannan Dujon, owner/manager of Algas Organics, will be highlighted at a gathering of 1000 conservation practitioners, pioneering scientists from varied fields, leaders in industry, philanthropists and artists. Presentations at the event will be streamed live to a global audience.

Live launch of CARIFESTA XIII today

The  Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat wishes to advise that the Government of Barbados will  launch  CARIFESTA III today, Monday, 27 March 2017.

With support from the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) of Barbados, radio and television services in the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) will have the opportunity to transmit the regional media launch of CARIFESTA XIII, rights-free.

Derek Walcott laid to rest

The funeral of Sir Derek Alton Walcott KCSL, OBE, OCC, was held on Saturday, March 25, at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Castries.

Sir Derek passed away on March 17 at his home in Cap Estate, Saint Lucia. He was 87 years old.

Private sector development in Caribbean pivotal – Barbados PM

Prime Minister of Barbados, the Hon. Freundel Stuart, on Wednesday stressed that private sector development in the Caribbean remained pivotal and suggested that exporters must continue to be empowered to penetrate global markets. According to him, enabling and strengthening the private sector was the most effective way of ensuring continued economic growth in this Region.
