CARPHA and Guyana launch novel public-private partnership programme to boost tourism and health

Tourism growth and sustainability in the Caribbean face serious health, safety and environmental (HSE) threats. These include disease outbreaks and deficiencies in food safety and environmental sanitation.  This contributes to reduced tourism arrivals which in turn impacts those whose livelihoods depend on the sector, and possibly lead to adverse economic and social burdens.

Suriname’s Federation of Visual Artists call on CARICOM SG

Members of the Federation of Visual Artists (FVAs) in Suriname paid a courtesy call on Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary General, Amb. Irwin LaRocque, on 21 April at the Georgetown-based Community headquarters. The  FVAs were wrapping up a three day Suriname Art Expo, held at the Umana Yana  part of an exchange programme, between Suriname and Guyana.

Private Sector capacity building and consultation: CARICOM strategy for regional implementation of the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA)

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has convened a Private Sector Consultation and capacity building workshop on the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA) and the CARICOM Strategy for Regional Implementation.   
 
The Meeting, intended for national Business Development Organisations from CARICOM WTO Members, takes place in Kingston, Jamaica, 19-20 April, 2017,   with the support of the Commonwealth Secretariat/European Union Hubs & Spokes II Programme, in collaboration with the World Bank Group (WBG).
 

PANCAP hosts meeting of Youth to discuss ending AIDS by 2030 - Youth Leaders to formulate and agree on framework for regional youth advocacy

The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) will host a meeting of youth leaders from 19 Caribbean countries on April 21 and 22, 2017 in Port of Spain, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. 
 
The focus of the forum will be a discussion on the role of youth in the national and regional response to HIV and AIDS; participants will also be involved in formulating and agreeing on a framework for regional youth advocacy.
 

More than 50% of electricity demand to be supplied by Renewables

The Government is projecting that within two years, more than half of Jamaica’s electricity demand, totalling nearly 700 megawatts will be generated from renewable  sources.

According to Finance and Public Service Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw, this is based on the Government’s “aggressive” approach to fuel diversification resulting in over 200 megawatts  of renewable energy already being supplied to the national power grid.

CARICOM SG meets with FIFA President - says sports a valuable investment in Youth

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and President of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), Mr Giovanni Infantino agreed on the importance of sport to youth development and to society as a whole.

Mr Infantino paid a courtesy call on the Secretary-General on Tuesday at the Georgetown, Guyana Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat.
