Ms. Shirley Pryce received the Twelfth CARICOM Triennial Award for Women during the Official Opening of the 38th Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community on 4 July 2017, in St. George’s Grenada.
Developing inclusive mechanisms to close the political distance between integration arrangements and the demands of the people of the Region is a task that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) must confront.
“The Community, challenged by the constantly changing international situation, must redouble its efforts to ensure a more safe society for its citizens, more stable economies for its countries, deeper solidarity and a more secure hemisphere.”
CARICOM is one of the longest surviving integration movements among developing countries. The original Treaty of Chaguaramas was signed on 4 July 1973, in honour of the birthday of Norman Washington Manley, a leading advocate of the West Indies Federation and one of Jamaica’s national heroes. The Treaty and its Annex (setting out the details of the Common Market Arrangements) came into effect on 1 August 1973. Since 2001, the Community has been functioning within the framework of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.

Grenada will continue its historically prominent role at the forefront of regional integration when it hosts the 38th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government from 4 – 6 July, at the Radisson Grenada Beach Resort. An Opening Ceremony, on 4 July, will be held at the Grenada Trade Centre.
