GEORGETOWN, Guyana - Veteran politician and one of Guyana’s longest serving politicians, Reepu Daman Persaud died on Sunday, according to well-placed sources. He was 77. Hospital sources said he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH)-based Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) late Saturday night.
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – President Donald Ramotar says he is not in favour of an opposition request for an extension of the debate on the GUY$209.8 billion (One Guyana dollar = US$0.01 cents) budget and urged legislators to put aside their differences for the betterment of Guyana. Debate on the fiscal package which began on March 25 is due to end on Tuesday and Ramotar said he has not seen “anything during the debate to make me very optimistic that they (opposition) are ready to want to see our country move forward.
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, April 4, CMC - Former Education Minister Rev.Dale Bisnauth died on Wednesday following a heart attack.
Bisnauth, 76, who was appointed Education Minister in 1992 also served as Minister of Labour, Human Services and Social Security.
Up until the time his passing he was the Chairman of the Board of Industrial Training.
GEORGETOWN, Guyana - According to a recent international study conducted by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), teachers are giving girls higher marks than boys in school-based assessments, not simply because they are brighter but because they are being rewarded for such attributes as attentiveness, eagerness and organisational skills. The study also suggests that socio-economically advantaged students fare better than their less fortunate peers.
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – A 17 year-old Irish youth will re-appear in court on April 30 on a charge of threatening to assassinate President Donald Ramotar.
Cillian James Crosson, a volunteer teacher at Shulinab, Rupununi, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman, who released him on GUY$60,000 (One Guyana dollar = US$0.01 cents) bail.
The court heard that Crosson, who arrived here last August through the organization Project Trust, allegedly made the threat to shoot President Ramotar in the head on March 29 at City Boy Club at Tabatinga in Lethem.
