CARICOM and India collaborate on space technology

(Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of India continue to deepen cooperation under the partnership elaborated at the Second CARICOM-India Summit held in November 2024.

Japan and Colombia appoint new ambassadors to CARICOM

The governments of Japan, and the Republic of Colombia have appointed new Ambassadors to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The accreditation ceremonies took place on Tuesday, July 1, at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.

CARICOM Secretary-General accepted the Letter of Credence from the new Ambassador of Japan to CARICOM, His Excellency Dr. UMEZAWA Akima noting that the CARICOM Secretariat headquarters, funded by Japan, stands as a testament to the enduring strength of CARICOM-Japan relations.

CARICOM, Palestine mark milestone in diplomatic relations

 “We strongly urge an end to the illegal settlement of the occupied Palestinian Territories, a clear violation of international law. The Community’s repeated message is clear: there must be an unconditional and sustained ceasefire, protection of civilian lives, and unimpeded humanitarian aid in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.”

CARICOM, Türkiye renew ties

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown Guyana) - The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of Türkiye have renewed diplomatic ties with the accreditation of a new Ambassador from Türkiye.

Welcoming Her Excellency Ayșe Selcan Şanli, CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett highlighted the potential for increased technical cooperation between CARICOM and Türkiye.

1.We, the leaders of Brazil and countries of the Caribbean, met in Brasilia, on 13 June 2025, to address issues of common interest and strengthen channels of dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation. The attendance of a significant number of Heads of State and Government, senior officials, as well as chief administrative officers of regional organizations, illustrates the importance attached by the participants to the Brazil-Caribbean Summit.

Guyana chairs signature UNSC event on poverty and peace

On Thursday 19 June, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) convened a high-level open debate on “Poverty, Underdevelopment and Conflict: Implications for the Maintenance of International Peace.” The session was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Guyana, Hon. Hugh Todd, with the country serving as Chair of the UNSC for June 2025.

Mister President,
I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and to commend the Co-operative Republic of Guyana for convening this important debate under the theme “Poverty, Underdevelopment and Conflict: Implications for the Maintenance of International Peace and Security.”

We welcome - Minister Todd- the leadership by Guyana in placing the nexus between peace and development at the heart of the Council’s deliberations.

CARIFORUM Team Supports EPA Implementation in Barbados

(CARIFORUM Directorate, CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - Barbados is now better positioned to realise greater benefits from the CARIFORUM-European Union (EU) and CARIFORUM-United Kingdom (UK) Economic Partnership Agreements, following in-country sessions from 16-17 June, with support from the CARIFORUM Directorate.
