CARICOM, Cuba Heads to meet in Antigua

 

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)      Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of Cuba will hold the Sixth CARICOM-Cuba Summit in Antigua and Barbuda on Friday 8 December.

The Meeting will be co-chaired by the Chairman of CARICOM, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell of Grenada,  and the President of  Cuba, Raúl Castro.

CARICOM SG ASKS SWEDEN’S HELP ON BLACKLISTING ISSUE

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has urged Sweden to use its position in two major international organisations to highlight the unfair labelling of some of the Community’s Member States as “non-cooperative tax jurisdictions”.

CARICOM SG calls for new model for development finance

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) believes that a new model for development finance needs to be considered.

Speaking during the accreditation ceremony for the new Swedish Ambassador to the Community on Wednesday at the CARICOM Secretariat’s, Turkeyen, Guyana headquarters, CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque stated that GDP per capita should not be the principal measurement used in determining the development status of a country.

CARICOM, UN to strengthen cooperation at New York meeting

Cooperation between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the United Nations (UN) System will be further strengthened around several issues including climate change, security, human development, health and education at the Ninth CARICOM-United Nations General Meeting this week.

The two-day meeting begins 20 July 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It is happening against the backdrop of a changing international environment, replete with uncertainty and complexity, and requiring greater collaboration.

More than 50% of electricity demand to be supplied by Renewables

The Government is projecting that within two years, more than half of Jamaica’s electricity demand, totalling nearly 700 megawatts will be generated from renewable  sources.

According to Finance and Public Service Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw, this is based on the Government’s “aggressive” approach to fuel diversification resulting in over 200 megawatts  of renewable energy already being supplied to the national power grid.

The Caribbean Community and Japan to discuss strengthening cooperation

Senior officials from the Caribbean Community and Japan hold the 18th CARICOM-Japan Consultation on Tuesday 14 March at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.

The fifth Japan-CARICOM Ministerial Level conference

The consultation will, among other things, review CARICOM-Japan cooperation since their last Ministerial Meeting in 2016,  and examine the CARICOM-Japan Friendship and Cooperation Fund and its current and planned projects.

CARICOM, Cuba Foreign Ministers meet in Havana

 Foreign Ministers from the Caribbean Community and their counterpart from the Republic of Cuba are meeting on Saturday 11 March 2017 for their fifth Ministerial Meeting in Havana.
