Statement by the Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government His Excellency Brigadier (Ret’d) David A. Granger

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is deeply distressed at the violence which broke out in Dominica following a public meeting on Tuesday, 7 February.

CARICOM recognizes the right of citizens to engage in peaceful protest. However, the Community condemns the vandalism which resulted in the destruction of private property and businesses.

The Community urges all to act with restraint and maintain the orderly and peaceful society to which Dominicans and the wider Community are accustomed.

Reform absolutely essential in ever-changing global environment - CARICOM SG

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRcoque, delivering the Feature Address on the occasion of Public Service Day, 2 December 2016, in the Commonwealth of Dominica:

It is a real pleasure for me to be here tonight to celebrate with you as you acknowledge and reward your peers for excellence and service.  I congratulate all the awardees who I am sure would have put in the extra effort to ensure that the job was done.  There is nothing more satisfying than the feeling of a job well done – except of course being rewarded for it!

National Company Registries Going Online

Company registries within the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) are set to go online this year. This development is due to an ongoing project funded by the 10th European Development Fund to create an online regional registry of companies. This will serve as a central repository of information on companies and other legal entities established in the CSME. This should address some challenges related to the Right of Establishment regime within the CSME.

Dominica to establish an IT Academy

An Information Technology academy to facilitate ongoing capacity building on a range of ICT tools is to be established here.

The IT Academy, proposed by the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OAS), will complement an ongoing training for forty information technology secondary school teachers which is being funded by the OAS.
