CARICOM welcomes new ambassadors from Dominica, Azerbaijan

(CARICOM Secretary-General, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - Dr Carla Barnett, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, has commended Dominica’s leadership in regional integration, as the Community navigates the goal of free movement within CARICOM.

This was highlighted during the virtual accreditation of His Excellency Gerard Jean-Jacques as Dominica’s new Ambassador to CARICOM.

As the Commonwealth of Dominica celebrates the country’s Forty-Sixth Anniversary of Independence today, 3 November 2024, CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett has recognised the country’s unwavering commitment to harness its resources in pursuit of sustainable development. According to Dr Barnett, the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, in the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet, and his efforts in the area of Labour (including Intro-Community Movement of Skills) have been critical to the integration process.

Foreign affairs officials advanced preparations for ministerial talks in Dominica

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Georgetown, Guyana) - Senior foreign affairs officials met via video conference anchored at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat on April 29-30 to review and finalise the foreign policy matters that will be placed on the agenda of the 27th Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) scheduled for 23-24 May in Roseau, Dominica.

CARICOM, CITES Secretariats raise awareness, build capacity on wildlife conservation in Dominica and Grenada

Dominica and Grenada are now better equipped to manage and protect trade in wildlife following workshops the CARICOM Secretariat organised recently to ensure compliance with multilateral environmental agreements.

The workshops provided technical support to develop national, legal framework and institutional guidelines to implement the Convention on International Trade in Endangered species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to which all CARICOM Member States are signatories.

CARIFORUM Capacity Building Intervention starts:  Youth investment, policies and prevention programmes, partnerships emphasised

The importance of investing in youth, including treatment and rehabilitation for those who are using and addicted to alcohol and other drugs, was underscored at the Official Opening of the Regional Adolescent Training Workshops on 4 February 2019 in Trinidad and Tobago. To this end, partnerships, relevant policies and adolescents’ prevention programmes, among others, were emphasised by speakers who represented the CARICOM Secretariat, Delegation of the European Union, Organisation of the American States (OAS) and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.

After record Sargassum influx, CRFM initiates fact-finding study in CARICOM States

The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) has initiated a regional fact-finding study to document the record-breaking influx of Sargassum seaweed in the Caribbean Sea in 2018, and the impacts this phenomenon has been having on countries in the region since 2011.

The fact-finding survey is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), that has coordinated official development assistance from Japan to CARICOM States for over two decades.
