Twelfth CARICOM Triennial Woman Awardee calls for support to reduce the scourge
of violence against women and girls
Ms. Shirley Pryce received the Twelfth CARICOM Triennial Award for Women during the Official Opening of the 38th Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community on 4 July 2017, in St. George’s Grenada.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) CARICOM will pay formal recognition to yet another distinguished daughter of the soil when it confers its prestigious Triennial Award for Women on Ms. Shirley Pryce of Jamaica.
The third programme in the live television series, “Chatting CARICOM” was broadcast across the Region on Wednesday 28 June 2017 at 8 pm.
The panel featured the Barbados Ambassador to #CARICOMorg, Mr. Robert Morris and the Officer-in-Charge of the CSME Unit, Ms. Gladys Young.The focus was on the Free Movement of Skills.

Climate change remains inextricably linked to the challenges of disaster risk reduction (DRR). And according to the head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), Robert Glasser, the reduction of greenhouse gases is “the single most urgent global disaster risk treatment”.
Glasser was addressing the Fifth Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Americas. Held recently in Montreal, the gathering included more than 1,000 delegates from 50 countries, including the Caribbean.

May 2, 2017 — In an effort to enhance the quality of agricultural produce in the Region, food safety stakeholders convened in Barbados from April 25-26, 2017 to discuss the improvement of plant health in the Region.
The two-day consultations, conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services Services (APHIS), and the Greater Caribbean Safeguarding Initiative (GCIS), discussed the implementation of programmes to safeguard the region from the introduction and spread of pests and invasive species.

Tourism growth and sustainability in the Caribbean face serious health, safety and environmental (HSE) threats. These include disease outbreaks and deficiencies in food safety and environmental sanitation. This contributes to reduced tourism arrivals which in turn impacts those whose livelihoods depend on the sector, and possibly lead to adverse economic and social burdens.
