What does ‘climate-smart agriculture’ really mean? New tool breaks it down

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Aug 14 2017 (IPS) - A Trinidadian scientist has developed a mechanism for determining the degree of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) compliance with respect to projects, processes and products.

This comes as global attention is drawn to climate-smart agriculture as one of the approaches to mitigate or adapt to climate change.

Canada sending large contingent to CARIFESTA XIII

More than 66 artists, spearheaded by the Canadian-Caribbean Arts Network (C-CAN), are heading to Barbados for CARIFESTA XIII which opens later this week, the TorontoCaribbean media outfit has reported.

“I am still pinching myself because at one point in time I had given up hope that it would ever happen,” confessed Rhoma Spencer, Artistic Director of C-CAN as she sat down for an interview at the Black Artists’ Networks Dialogue art gallery following a special meeting.

CHTA JOINS FORCES WITH TRAVEL ASSOCIATIONS WORLDWIDE TO UNIFY SECTOR

MIAMI (August 9, 2017) - The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) is partnering with travel associations around the world to strengthen the tourism sector in the region.  

President of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Karolin Troubetzkoy disclosed that under the stewardship of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), CHTA has joined forces with close to a dozen regional and national travel organizations to advocate for the sector among governments, legislators and economists.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands – The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is in full “clean up mode” following extensive flooding in certain areas of the Territory with the hardest impact occurring on the island of Tortola. Heavy and steady precipitation from the tropical wave caused flooding in low lying areas as well as damage to streets and sporadic landslides.

PANCAP hosts HIV Edutainment event

 The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP), the mechanism that provides a structured and unified approach to the Caribbean’s response to the HIV epidemic, upon the initiative and request from the Office of the Deputy Secretary-General will facilitate an awareness activity on HIV and AIDS titled ‘HIV Edutainment Hangout’. The special initiative will focus on the children of CARICOM employees, ages 10 – 19 and will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana.

CARIFESTA XIII will not lack for exposure thanks to the signing of two agreements – The Host Broadcasters Agreement with the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC); and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU).
