Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and the Secretary-General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) His Excellency Kunio Mikuriya have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The signing ceremony took place at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana on Tuesday, 20 March, 2018.
Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes was sworn in today at the Queen’s Park Savannah as the sixth President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
A large crowd including Government Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior members of the Judiciary attended the swearing-in ceremony, the Office of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago said.
A number of students from primary and secondary schools also attended the event.
The Government of Saint Lucia on Friday signed on for the 2nd cycle from the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF). Since its establishment, Saint Lucia has benefited from the CDF. For the first funding cycle, the Saint Lucia CAP (Country Assistance Programme) was valued at approximately USD $6.1 million or XCD $16.47 million in loans and grants and was designed to enhance private sector competitiveness and youth entrepreneurship.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has mounted an Observation Mission for Antigua and Barbuda’s General Elections on 21 March 2018.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat joined the world in observing International Women’s Day last Thursday. A Forum under the theme Gender Equality: A Pre requisite for Progress was organised by the Human and Social Development (HSD) Directorate of the Secretariat and the Secretariat’s Staff Association at the Georgetown-based headquarters.
