‘Sadness mixed with revulsion’ – CARICOM SG to Canada’s Prime Minister on Toronto tragic incident

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has sent a message of condolence to the Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Justin Trudeau, following the tragic incident in Toronto on Monday which left at least 10 people dead and several others injured.

“It is with great sadness mixed with revulsion that I, and the entire Caribbean Community, have reacted to the horror of the deadly vehicle rampage unleashed on unsuspecting, innocent persons in Toronto on 23 April, 2018”, the Secretary-General said in his message.

CARPHA executive director urges caution on decriminalisation of marijuana

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) — The executive director of the Trinidad-based Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), Dr. James Hosepdales, is urging regional countries to “proceed with an abundance of caution” when it come to the decriminalisation of marijuana.

Need for climate change financing in SIDS highlighted at CHOGM 2018

Rt. Hon. Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, this morning used the international platform of the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to reinforce the need for financing for Small Island and Developing States (SIDS) given the existential threats climate change poses for these countries.

The Jamaican Prime Minister was speaking at the Combined Forum hosted at the Queen Elizabeth Centre, London, United Kingdom (UK).

This year’s activity was observed under the theme, ‘Climate: Resilience and Mitigation – Safeguarding Our Physical and Cultural Integrity’

CCREEE, regional energy security among matters before Ministers at Special COTED

Montserrat deposited its instruments of ratification of the Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE), on Tuesday. CARIFORUM Customs officials begin three-day workshop in Georgetown

A Regional Workshop aimed at building capacity in the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM), began this morning at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.

The Regional Workshop on the Single Administrative Document (SAD) and Customs Valuation brings together stakeholders from CARIFORUM States’ Customs Administrations.

HIV Sustainability and Domestic Financing

Thursday 5 April 2018, Georgetown Guyana: Sustainability of the Region’s HIV response continues to be a priority of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP). Today, 5 April 2018, Director of PANCAP Mr Dereck Springer met with Finance Secretary Dr Hector Butts at the Ministry of Finance (Guyana) to discuss sustainability and HIV domestic financing.

Mr Springer was accompanied by Dr Martin Oditt, UNAIDS Country Director and Dr Edward Greene, PANCAP Advisor.
