Turks and Caicos takes strategic measures to reduce NCDs’ impact

The Hon. Dr. Rufus W. Ewing Premier  of the Turks and Caicos Islands, has committed to championing the fight against NCDs in his homeland and Regionally at the level of Heads of Government in CARICOM.

Dr Ewing, who is also his country’s Minister of Health, Agriculture and Human Services, made the commitment  during a press conference held at the conclusion Tuesday of the Forum of Key stakeholders on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) that was held in Barbados, a press release from his office said.

Misick, who is in a Brazilian jail awaiting extradition to the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), has dismissed the report that he is negotiating the plea bargain that would implicate United States citizens and senior politicians in Jamaica, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.

Mission ends fact finding visit to Turks and Caicos Islands

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – A Caribbean Community (CARICOM) fact finding mission to the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) will present its findings and recommendations to regional leaders when they meet in Trinidad and Tobago next week. The mission, which was headed by Bahamas Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister Frederick A. Mitchell was mandated by the regional leaders to review the situation in the Turks and Caicos Islands, following the return of parliamentary democracy last year.

TCI to work with Haiti to prevent illegal migration

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands, CMC - The Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) says it wants to work better with Haitian authorities to prevent the flow of illegal migrants into the British Overseas Territory. Governor Ric Todd has held talks with the TCI-based Haitian Consul General, Karlo Pellissier and a statement issued afterwards noted that the meeting was called to discuss how the two countries “can better work together to tackle the issue of sloops” leaving Haiti for the TCI.

Illegal Cuban migrants evade authorities

GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands, CMC– Immigration authorities here say they are investigating the escape of at least a dozen Cubans, who mysteriously arrived in Miami in what is believed to be a human trafficking ring. lara Gardiner, of the Turks and Caicos’ Ministry of Immigration and Border Control, confirmed that authorities are conducting the probe but did not know when the inquiry would be completed.
