Youth must be equal partners – CARICOM SG

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin Larocque, speaking at the Caribbean Summit on Youth Violence Prevention which opened earlier today, in Georgetown reminded youth from across the Caribbean that they were “equal partners in the struggle”.

“Fora such as these provide an opportunity for our youth to be fully involved in providing solutions to problems that affect them”, the Secretary-General said.

Disability respects no one says CARICOM Special Rapporteur on Disabilities

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Special Rapporteur on Disabilities (CSRoD), Senator Dr. Floyd Morris, in a statement to observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), 3 December 2018, drew attention to the thin separation between being abled and being disabled. Calling for persons with disabilities to be treated with “dignity and respect” the CSRoD alluded to the high levels of violence and motor vehicle accidents in the Caribbean, and noted that “developing a disability [was] just a moment away”.

Secretary-General highlights Region’s work against Gender-based Violence

As the Region joins the global observance of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, progress has been identified in the important area of data collection on discrimination and violence against women and children and the analysis of underlying causes.

Singapore has said it is happy to share its development experience with the Caribbean Community, as the country’s second Ambassador to CARICOM  was accredited Wednesday.
