Canada sending large contingent to CARIFESTA XIII

More than 66 artists, spearheaded by the Canadian-Caribbean Arts Network (C-CAN), are heading to Barbados for CARIFESTA XIII which opens later this week, the TorontoCaribbean media outfit has reported.

“I am still pinching myself because at one point in time I had given up hope that it would ever happen,” confessed Rhoma Spencer, Artistic Director of C-CAN as she sat down for an interview at the Black Artists’ Networks Dialogue art gallery following a special meeting.

Turks and Caicos elects first female premier

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos  (CMC) — Voters in Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) on Thursday elected its first ever woman to head a government in this British Overseas Territory (BOT) and in the process booted Premier Dr Rufus Ewing out of Parliament completely.

The preliminary results released Friday by the electoral officials here showed that 45-year-old attorney, Sharlene Cartwright Robinson, had led her opposition People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) to victory, winning seven of the 10 constituencies. The party also won four of the five at large candidates

Good family health contributes to strong economy – Premier Ewing

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos - Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Dr. The Honourable Rufus Ewing said last week that the Region must “go back to the family, to basics, if we are to successfully address issues such as teenage pregnancy, mental health and youth violence in the Caribbean.”

He made the point while addressing the opening ceremony of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) 61st Health Research Conference at Beaches Resort, Providenciales.
