Youth To Be Vital Part Of CARIFESTA

CARIFESTA’s Youth Talk is expected to take the regional festival “to another dimension of the arts” in Barbados.

This is according to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, Ruth Blackman, who identified the youth and the cultural industries as the two significant elements to be focused on at the festival.

She made these remarks on Thursday at the media launch of Youth Talk at CARIFESTA Youth Village, at the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) office in Maxwell, Christ Church.

CARICOM, UN to strengthen cooperation at New York meeting

Cooperation between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the United Nations (UN) System will be further strengthened around several issues including climate change, security, human development, health and education at the Ninth CARICOM-United Nations General Meeting this week.

The two-day meeting begins 20 July 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It is happening against the backdrop of a changing international environment, replete with uncertainty and complexity, and requiring greater collaboration.

Barbados building CARIFESTA legacy

CARIFESTA XIII promises to be to be a diverse festival with a lasting legacy.

During a media update in his Sky Mall office on Monday, Minister with responsibility for Culture, Stephen Lashley highlighted several plans for the Festival. One notable feature referred to by the Minister was the Grand Market and Buyer’s Mall.

Agriculture stakeholders discuss regional food safety

May 2, 2017 — In an effort to enhance the quality of agricultural produce in the Region, food safety stakeholders convened in Barbados from April 25-26, 2017 to discuss the improvement of plant health in the Region.

The two-day consultations, conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services Services (APHIS), and the Greater Caribbean Safeguarding Initiative (GCIS), discussed the implementation of programmes to safeguard the region from the introduction and spread of pests and invasive species.

Private Sector capacity building and consultation: CARICOM strategy for regional implementation of the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA)

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has convened a Private Sector Consultation and capacity building workshop on the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA) and the CARICOM Strategy for Regional Implementation.   
 
The Meeting, intended for national Business Development Organisations from CARICOM WTO Members, takes place in Kingston, Jamaica, 19-20 April, 2017,   with the support of the Commonwealth Secretariat/European Union Hubs & Spokes II Programme, in collaboration with the World Bank Group (WBG).
